Woodland Trust’s Gold Green Tree School Award

At Oakfields, we are delighted to have achieved Gold Status in the Woodland Trust’s Green Tree Schools Award, a national programme that recognises schools making a meaningful and sustained contribution to the environment through hands on outdoor learning and purposeful sustainability projects.

The Green Tree Schools Award encourages Oakfields pupils to build a deep connection with nature through activities such as tree planting, wildlife exploration, reducing CO₂ emissions, and visiting local woodlands. These rich experiences enable us to progress through Bronze and Silver on our journey to Gold, while nurturing pupils’ curiosity and environmental awareness.

Achieving Gold reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and the enthusiastic involvement of our pupils, staff, and wider Oakfields community in improving and understanding the natural world. The award includes a wooden plaque - a symbol of our collective effort to protect, enhance, and celebrate the green spaces that play such a vital role in school life.

This milestone highlights our belief in the power of outdoor learning to inspire curiosity, wellbeing, creativity, and responsibility. At Oakfields, caring for the environment is not simply a curriculum thread - it is a lived experience for every child, woven into the heart of our values and everyday practice.

Ministry of Eco Education Pioneer School

At Oakfields, we are proud to be recognised as a Ministry of Eco Education (MEE) Pioneer School, joining a national movement that places sustainability, climate awareness and a deep connection with nature at the heart of education. The Ministry of Eco Education - developed by teachers and environmental specialists - offers a rich and forward thinking framework that helps schools embed climate and nature learning across every subject through high quality resources and meaningful learning experiences.

The MEE approach supports our teachers with a clear and dynamic structure, empowering them to weave sustainability throughout the curriculum using real world Big Questions and engaging learning journeys. This allows pupils at Oakfields to develop not only knowledge and awareness, but also agency, curiosity and a genuine sense of hope for the future.

As a Pioneer School, Oakfields is part of the early cohort shaping this national initiative. The programme’s successful development - from trials in 15 schools to implementation in more than 1,500 - reflects its powerful impact on teacher confidence, community engagement and pupils’ connection to the natural world. We are proud to contribute to that journey and to be a model for what eco education can achieve.

Our involvement reaffirms Oakfields’ long standing commitment to preparing young people for a greener, more sustainable future - helping them understand the world they will inherit, and equipping them with the skills, values and conviction to safeguard it.

School Games Platinum Award

At Oakfields, we are incredibly proud to have achieved the School Games Platinum Award, the highest honour within the national School Games Mark framework. This prestigious award recognises schools that demonstrate exceptional and sustained commitment to high quality PE, sport, physical activity and inclusive competition.

The Platinum Award is reserved for schools that have achieved four consecutive years of Gold and can evidence the significant impact of their continued engagement in the School Games. For Oakfields, this achievement reflects years of purposeful development in PE and sport, underpinned by our belief that physical activity is central to pupil wellbeing, character formation and lifelong healthy habits.

Achieving the Platinum Award demonstrates Oakfields’ continued mission to place physical activity at the heart of school life, ensuring every child not only participates, but genuinely feels the joy, pride and sense of belonging that sport brings.

Millie’s Mark Award

Oakfields has been awarded Millie’s Mark, a special endorsement that highlights our commitment to going above and beyond in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children.

This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our Early Years staff, who have all completed paediatric first aid training and demonstrated competence and confidence in applying it in practice. Beyond meeting the minimum requirements, Millie’s Mark recognises that we have robust procedures and documentation in place, providing parents with even greater reassurance about their children’s safety.

Transport for London’s
Travel for Life programme

At Oakfields, we are delighted to have achieved Bronze Accreditation in Transport for London’s Travel for Life programme – an initiative that supports schools in promoting safer, healthier and more sustainable travel for young Londoners. This programme encourages our pupils to make informed choices about active and responsible travel while contributing positively to the school environment and the wider community.

To earn Bronze status, Oakfields completed the required ten core activities and six supporting activities, which may include Walk to School Week, transition projects and cycle training experiences. These initiatives recognise our commitment to reducing car use, improving road safety and championing walking, cycling, scooting and other forms of sustainable travel throughout our community.

As part of a city wide movement involving more than 1,500 participating schools, Oakfields is proud to play a role in shaping a brighter, safer travel culture for the next generation – one that nurtures wellbeing, independence, environmental awareness and stronger community connections.

Music Mark of Recognition

At Oakfields, we are proud to have been awarded the Music Mark of Recognition, celebrating our strong commitment to providing high quality, inclusive and enriching music education for every pupil. This recognition reflects our belief that music is not just a subject, but a powerful vehicle for creativity, confidence and community.

The Music Mark of Recognition is presented by local music services to schools that demonstrate dedication to musical learning and commit to core pledges - advocating for music within the curriculum, ensuring equitable access for all pupils, and broadening musical opportunities through meaningful partnerships.

Our recognition has been awarded by Havering Music School, the specialist music service for the London Borough of Havering. Their exceptional expertise and community centred approach support thousands of young musicians each week, and we are proud to work alongside them to nurture technical skill, musicianship and a lifelong love of music in our pupils.

At Oakfields, every child is encouraged to sing, play, create and perform. Receiving the Music Mark of Recognition affirms our ongoing commitment to ensuring that music remains an integral, joyful and aspirational part of school life.
