Music

Music is highly valued at Oakfields and we offer a dynamic, varied and inspirational music education, within an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment. Music is an integral part of the curriculum and is taught weekly from Pre-Prep upwards. As well as an impressive set of drums and a Marimba, we have a range of hand-held percussion instruments for smaller children, a range of special effects and multi-cultural instruments, as well as class sets of recorders and keyboards, to name a few.

In addition to curriculum music, we offer our children the opportunity to learn an instrument by taking individual lessons from our team of experienced and dedicated, professional peripatetic teachers. Alongside more traditional woodwind, strings and keyboard, we also offer lessons in percussion and drumming in our dedicated sound-proofed studio. Children are encouraged to enter for the Associated Boards of Music examinations.

We have both a choir and orchestra who attend weekly lunchtime club sessions and weekly ‘jamming’ sessions are also held. Children perform at music recital evenings throughout the year, as well as at our Christmas Carol Concert at Brentwood Cathedral and End of Year extravaganza, in which all pupils from Years 3 to 6 take part.
