Welcome to Oakfields Preparatory School
Oakfields Preparatory School is an independent day school located in Upminster, where tradition meets dynamism, creating an extraordinary pathway of opportunities for pupils aged 2½ to 11.
At Oakfields, we prioritise small class sizes and provide a nurturing and stimulating environment. We are dedicated to delivering a bespoke and enriched curriculum tailored to each child's needs. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond academics; we prioritise the holistic development of each child, fostering their caring nature and building confidence.
We offer an energetic and diverse range of extra-curricular activities and enrichment programmes aimed at increasing learning opportunities for all children, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about us. We are immensely proud of our school, our staff and more particularly our children because they are our greatest ambassadors. They are curious, enthusiastic, respectful, articulate, hard-working and fun-loving. They have the confidence to fulfil their dreams and ambitions.
“To truly experience the buzz and excitement of the school, I encourage you to pay us a visit. We look forward to meeting you.”
- Matthew Booth, Headteacher
Excellent in all areas
We are proud to have been awarded the highest possible grade: double EXCELLENT in our 2022 ISI Inspection.
As well as being fully compliant in every aspect of the Regulatory Compliance Inspection, it was determined that the children’s academic achievement is "Excellent" and the children’s personal development is "Excellent".
Academic Excellence at every phase.
Our teaching and learning approach ensures that every child benefits from our enhanced curriculum, typically operating one year ahead. This allows pupils to make rapid progress, challenge themselves, and embrace new subjects with enthusiasm and curiosity.
We take immense pride in our reputation for supporting pupils to achieve outstanding results and entry to some of the country's top Senior Schools.
Oakfields Preparatory School Earns Woodland Trust’s Gold Green Tree Schools Award
We’re absolutely delighted to share that we have been awarded the Gold Award by the Woodland Trust.
This recognition celebrates our ongoing commitment to sustainability, outdoor learning and caring for the world around us. From tree celebrations and nature-based learning to wildlife conservation and tree dressing, every activity has helped our pupils connect more deeply with nature and nurture a lifelong love for the outdoors.
We’re excited to continue growing our eco-initiatives and inspiring our children to make a positive difference to their future and the planet.
We are proud to have the Millie’s Mark award.
Oakfields has been awarded Millie’s Mark, a special endorsement that highlights our commitment to going above and beyond in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children.
This achievement reflects the dedication and expertise of our Early Years staff, who have all completed paediatric first aid training and demonstrated competence and confidence in applying it in practice. Beyond meeting the minimum requirements, Millie’s Mark recognises that we have robust procedures and documentation in place, providing parents with even greater reassurance about their children’s safety.

We’re still buzzing from Year 6’s epic performance of School of POP: Everyone Kerrang!
From Mr Mooth’s headbanging history lessons to Miss Mavis rediscovering her inner rockstar, it was a show packed with energy, humour and seriously impressive talent.
A massive well done to every pupil who took part – on stage, behind the scenes and in the Year 5 chorus – and to the teachers who brought it all to life. What a way to end the year!👏🏼

Still smiling after a brilliant weekend at the PTA summer fair! From soaking the teachers to trying out all sorts of games and activities, there was something for everyone. 🌞

We’ve been quietly holding onto this since Monday… mostly because we were still catching our breath from all the excitement! 💙
At the ISA National Athletics Finals, Oakfields brought home some brilliant news and a good couple of medals!
🥈 Kamilla won Silver in the Year 4 60m Sprint
🥇 Merv, Kamilla, Anaiya and Cori broke the ISA National Record in the Year 4 4x100m Relay (yes, really!) with a show-stopping Gold-winning time of 1.01 minutes.
🌟 We were also incredibly proud to see alumni and 2024 Headteacher’s Award Winner Divena back on the track and winning medals at national level.
Huge thanks to Ms Peacham and our amazing parents who supported, and cheered. 🫶 What. A. Day.

This morning’s House Colour Run was everything we hoped for — a lot of fun and full of colour.🌈
A huge thank you to our amazing PTA for organising such a fantastic event, and to all the children (and teachers, of course!) - you made it such an unforgettable morning.
Swipe to see some of our favourite moments (if only we could share them all!) 💙💛💚🧡❤️

This week, our Year 4 families joined us for a very special Forest School session - and what a lovely morning it was!
From den building and balancing games to creating forest fairies and relaxing in hammocks, it was a joy to see everyone getting stuck in and making memories together. 🌿✨

Last week, our Year 2s had the best time at Stubbers! From grass sledging and climbing walls to archery and paddling on the Bell Boat, it was a brilliant day all round. 🧗🏻🛶

Stunning facilities to learn and grow.
First-time visitors to our school are always impressed by the scale and range of facilities on offer at Oakfields. Set in a Grade II-listed mansion with bright and airy classrooms within seven acres of stunning grounds, our children have the space to learn and grow. The three-acre field in front of the school is used daily during playtimes and is also used for P.E. lessons, including Cross-Country Running, Rugby, Rounders and Athletics.
The school is set in the main house, where many of the impressive historic features remain. It also has a Library and a separate Hall that serves multiple purposes, hosting assemblies, P.E. lessons, and also functions as our dining area.
Our Exceptional Nursery.
We understand that parents want to give their children the best possible start in life. Our vibrant and nurturing Nursery, now located within our brand new Early Years Village, offers children the opportunity to take their first steps on their educational journey in a warm and nurturing environment.
The formative years of a child’s education are ones of excitement, exploration and discovery, where they will begin to make friends, experience new opportunities and learn about a world beyond the secure confines of their immediate home life.
A unique learning experience.
